Provence Vine Shadows
Provence Vine Shadows

watercolor on art media board, 2017
16 x 20”, 41 x 51 cm, framed, 21 x 25”, $875
The challenge was to invite the viewer to share the feeling of the light on the vines and the stones, yet retain the individual textures whether they were in the light or shadow. Watercolor painted on art media board helps to enhance the textures.

East Coast Sunrise
East Coast Sunrise

watercolor on paper, 2018
13 x 18”, 33 x 46 cm, framed 20 x 26”, $875
On an early morning beach walk, the stormy skies continued to shift colors during the sunrise. Starting a beach walk in the dark is always awesome to experience nature at work as the sun rises and the view changes dramatically by the minute.

Charleston Palisade
Charleston Palisade

watercolor on paper, 2012
24 x 21”, 61 x 53 cm, framed, 35 x 32”, $2450
The coastal city of Charleston has a lot of history. Many homes are tucked behind ‘palisades’ or walls, making you wonder what lies on the other side. In this case, the flowers were peaking over the railing adding even more texture against the stone textures.

Paris Sunset
Paris Sunset

Watercolor, $4800
26” x 37”, 66 x 94 cm,
40” x 52” framed, archival off-white, 8-ply mat
Parisian sunsets can vary considerably and many are quite dramatic. They are magical! Many thin, glazed layers were used to achieve the glow of the sunset. Simplifying the large shape of the backlit Parisian architecture created a great contrast to enhance the glowing sky.

Savannah Restaurant
Savannah Restaurant

acrylic on linen, 2013
30 x 30”, 76 x 76 cm, 34 x 34” framed
$3200
While visiting Savannah, Georgia, my husband and I stopped by this restaurant for a drink with a coastal view. Looking toward the entry, away from the water, the light coming through the windows created interest and reflected onto the shiny bar top. The silhouette of the receptionist added tremendously to the scene.

Croissants & Brioches
Croissants & Brioches

acrylic on board with genuine gold leaf, 2017
36 x 18”, 91 x 46, 29 x 21” framed
$2600
Paris abounds with painted, historical glass on shop windows. Sadly, they are becoming a lost art but many are restored and remain even today. They tell the story of Paris. By simplifying the background reflections, I created a backdrop for the genuine gold-leafed painting to give it the illusion that it is on the glass.

Pont Royal Reflections
Pont Royal Reflections

acrylic on linen, 2016
30 x 24”, 76 x 61 cm, framed, 36 x 30”
$2900
The composition of Pont Royal Reflections tells you about the shapes the reflections created from the buildings. When you study them, you will see the reflections are the Louvre. By cutting off most of the buildings at the top, I was able to draw you to the reflections. Although a limited palette, many impressionistic colors were used within simple shapes to achieve the stone textures.

Provence in South Carolina
Provence in South Carolina

oil on linen, 2019
18 x 24”, 46 x 61 cm, 19 x 25” framed
$1400
I was fortunate to be invited to this Lavender Farm in South Carolina. I have titled the painting ‘Provence in South Carolina’ as the farm has been planted and sculpted to give you that Provencal feeling as you wander through it. Every corner offers an amazing vista.

Connie's Garden
Connie's Garden

watercolor on aquaboard, 2015
12 x 12”, 31 x 31 cm, framed 16 x 16”
$475
This was painted with a Plein-air group in one of the member’s lovely gardens. A well-known artist herself, her garden was a palette of lovely colors and it was easy to find a great composition. Watercolors on aquaboard enable the artist to frame without glass or mat after applying archival varnishing.

Charleston Palisade Textures
Charleston Palisade Textures

oil on linen, 2019
18 x 24”, 46 x 61 cm , 19 x 25” framed
$1375
Leisurely walking in Charleston always makes you wonder what is behind the wall of the public pathways and streets. In this case, I was as much intrigued by the textures on the palisade as what was behind the wall.

Montepulciano Shadows
Montepulciano Shadows

watercolor on paper, 2010
29 x 21”, 74 x 53 cm, framed, 40 x 32”
$3025
Montepulciano is a well-known Medieval and Renaissance hilltop town in Tuscany. One climbs to the very top via numerous shops and restaurants. Montepulciano is known worldwide for its wine. I was drawn to this scene by the shadows that visually take you underneath the arches and to the distant village beyond.

Pont Neuf & Louvre
Pont Neuf & Louvre

oil on linen with silver leaf, 2016
30 x 30”, 76 x 76 cm, 36 x 36” framed
$3600
The Louvre at Pont Neuf is one of my favorite scenes in Paris and I have painted it often. To show a more unique and interesting approach, the composition was simplified and the colors were changed to a limited palette to work with the silver-leafed sky.

Pont au Double, Paris
Pont au Double, Paris

watercolor and pastel, 2014
18 x 22”, 45 x 56 cm, 27 x 31” framed
$1800
Pont au Double is a lovely, small bridge on the Seine River in Paris that many miss seeing. To achieve this soft glow, the painting was first painted in watercolor and then the light highlights were added in pastel over the dark shapes in watercolor.

Map of River Seine – Paris, France

acrylic with genuine gold leaf and other metallic colors, 2017
30 x 42”, 76 x 107 cm, framed, 37" x 49”
$4800
The Paris map is painted on heavy watercolor paper with acrylic, and genuine gold leaf with bronze, gold, and silver paints. The background was created with several glazed layers to create an almost leather-like tooled texture. The ‘houses’ were painted with metallic paints.

Morning Fog in St. Cirq Lapopie
Morning Fog in St. Cirq Lapopie

oil on linen, 24 x 30”, 61 x 76 cm, 2018
$3075, not framed
The hilltop village of St. Cirq Lapopie, in the Dordogne area of France, can create numerous moods. On this early morning, the fog had rolled in overnight and had shrouded most of the surrounding area in the village.

Palmetto Palm Shadows
Palmetto Palm Shadows

acrylic on linen, 2014
30 x 30”, 76 x 76 cm, 32 x 32: framed
$3200
Palmetto trees are abundantly found in the Carolinas. The shadows cast helped to create this composition. This painting was accepted into the 2015 ‘Carolinas Got Art Juried Exhibition’ — a juried exhibition open to North and South Carolina artists. Only 100 entries were accepted into the show.

Pont Alexandre III Statue, Paris
Pont Alexandre III Statue, Paris

Oil on linen, 2020
20 x 16”, 51 x 26 cm, 23 x 19” framed
$950
I have always wanted to paint the striking, gold statues on the Pont Alexander III Bridge in Paris, but the light was never correct. On this special evening, the golden sun was setting with many colors and it was creating deep, reflective shadows and colors on the statues.. Adding just a bit of genuine gold leaf to the painting was a final touch to express my feelings.

Entering the Louvre, Paris
Entering the Louvre, Paris

watercolor on paper, 2011
14 x 11”, 36 x 28 cm, framed, 24 x 20”
$625
Entering from a dark archway in the Louvre Plaza in Paris, the diamond-shaped glass Louvre Pyramid suddenly appears in front. The backlit group of people cast strong shadow shapes and offered good contrast for the subtle colors on the glass pyramid.

Cortona Sunset
Cortona Sunset

watercolor, 2016
6 x 15”, 15 x 38 cm
framed, 15 x 23”
$525

It is fairly peaceful to sit on a Tuscan villa patio in Cortona, Italy, watching the sun go down while sipping a glass of Chianti. I was doing just that while teaching a painting workshop in Tuscany. Suddenly, the sky turned a warm yellow creating a reddish glow on the trees yet leaving the foreground a cool blueish-purple. Capturing the fleeting moment is what this painting is about.

Siena, Tuscany
Siena, Tuscany

acrylic on panel, 2012
9 x 12”, 23 x 31 cm, framed, 12 x 15”
$400
The Tuscan countryside has typical Tuscan scenes at almost every turn. For this small painting, I wanted to try a new painting technique. First, I painted the panel with rust gesso, then scratched the surface slightly to create a texture. After it dried, I painted this scene with acrylic on the textured base.

Discovering the Village of Eze
Discovering the Village of Eze

oil on linen, 2018
20 x 16”, 51 x 41 cm, 23 x 19” framed
$950
The Village of Eze is perched high above Villefranche-sur-Mer in France. The worn texture of the old stone created a glow on the pot in the light and the lone tourist venturing down one of the many small alleyways added to the composition.

Shadows on the Quay — Paris
Shadows on the Quay — Paris

acrylic on linen, 2013
16 x 20”, 41 x 51 cm, framed 20 x 24”
$1200
Sitting on the banks of the Seine while soaking in the sun is a Parisian pastime. The quays allow the visitors to walk along the river and often the trees on the quays create wonderful shadows. Using a limited palette and Impressionistic brushstrokes helped to create a mood that inspired me.

Chianti Backroads
Chianti Backroads

oil, 2017
18 x 36”, 46 x 91 cm, 21 x 39” framed
$2450
One of my favorite adventures is to hit the backroads of an area with no planned destinations. This very panoramic vista in the Chianti area of Tuscany, somewhere between Siena to Panzano, was one of those discoveries. This vista extended for 360 degrees.

Dordogne Old Stone Shadows
Dordogne Old Stone Shadows

watercolor on archival paper, 2017
17 x 24”, 43 x 36 cm, 28 x 24” framed
$825
In the Dordogne area of the South of France, the old stone walls continually appeal to me. The light falling onto the leaves of the delicate tree was further enhanced by the textures of the backlit wall. It made me want to see what was beyond the old wall and door.

Often, one must take a quick photo to capture the light and scene of the moment. In this case, a storm was coming and after the storm, we drove by the buildings again. The scene had completely changed. There were no reflections and the unsealed wood had become quite dark.

Venetian Pot
Venetian Pot

oil on linen, 2018
30 x 30”, 76 x 76 cm, framed 32 x 32”
$3200
Years of wear textures on this grand Venetian pot attracted me. Even the lichen growing on it added to its appeal. To enhance the feeling and scale of the pot, the stairs in the background and column remained but I painted them to tell the story, but as a softer value background.

In Kennebunkport, Maine, suddenly the fog came up and enveloped everything but the dory boats. Many glazed layers were used to create this glow of the fog. If you mix yellow, red, and blue on your palette, you just get grey, but if you glaze each color separately, you can achieve a marvelous glow.

In Panzano, staying at Villa le Barone, high on a hilltop above Florence, this view was just down the road. It inspired me because of the various textures - one of my favorite painting styles to do. When painting this in watercolor, I must do a lot of ‘negative painting’ as watercolor must always go light to dark and few corrections can be made. White paint is rarely used.

The aged, Cotswold stone continually draws me; in this case it seemed to be inviting me for a cup of tea. Watercolor on paper, 2018
22" x 22", 56x56 cm, framed 32" x 32"
$1680
Paris flower markets are wonderful with their overflowing palettes of color. To retain simple shapes with this image, the technique I used was ‘poured watercolor’.  The artist must simplify all of the shapes of color, in my case, no more than 5 values. Starting light to dark you mask only the lightest values, then literally ‘pour’ thinned watercolor over the entire painting in yellow, red, and blue, letting it mix on the paper at various steps. The shapes are built with each darker value color. This technique lets watercolor do its magic by mixing the colors on the paper, not the palette.

Provence Vine Shadows

watercolor on art media board, 2017

Paris Sunset

Watercolor, $4800
26” x 37”, 66 x 94 cm,
40” x 52” framed, archival off-white, 8-ply mat
Parisian sunsets can vary considerably and many are quite dramatic. They are magical! Many thin, glazed layers were used to achieve the glow of the sunset. Simplifying the large shape of the backlit Parisian architecture created a great contrast to enhance the glowing sky.

Savannah Restaurant

Croissants & Brioches

acrylic on board with genuine gold leaf, 2017

Paris abounds with painted, historical glass on shop windows. Sadly, they are becoming a lost art but many are restored and remain even today. They tell the story of Paris. By simplifying the background reflections, I created a backdrop for the genuine gold-leafed painting to give it the illusion that it is on the glass.

Pont Royal Reflections

acrylic on linen, 2016
30 x 24”, 76 x 61 cm, framed, 36 x 30”

The composition of Pont Royal Reflections tells you about the shapes the reflections created from the buildings. When you study them, you will see the reflections are the Louvre. By cutting off most of the buildings at the top, I was able to draw you to the reflections. Although a limited palette, many impressionistic colors were used within simple shapes to achieve the stone textures.

Pont Neuf & Louvre

oil on linen with silver leaf, 2016
30 x 30”, 76 x 76 cm, 36 x 36” framed
$3600
The Louvre at Pont Neuf is one of my favorite scenes in Paris and I have painted it often. To show a more unique and interesting approach, the composition was simplified and the colors were changed to a limited palette to work with the silver-leafed sky.

Pont au Double, Paris

watercolor and pastel, 2014

Cirq Lapopie

oil on linen, 24 x 30”, 61 x 76 cm, 2018
$3075, not framed
The hilltop village of St. Cirq Lapopie, in the Dordogne area of France, can create numerous moods. On this early morning, the fog had rolled in overnight and had shrouded most of the surrounding area in the village.

Palmetto Palm Shadows

acrylic on linen, 2014
30 x 30”, 76 x 76 cm, 32 x 32: framed
$3200
Palmetto trees are abundantly found in the Carolinas. The shadows cast helped to create this composition. This painting was accepted into the 2015 ‘Carolinas Got Art Juried Exhibition’ — a juried exhibition open to North and South Carolina artists. Only 100 entries were accepted into the show.

Pont Alexandre III Statue, Paris

Oil on linen, 2020
20 x 16”, 51 x 26 cm, 23 x 19” framed
$950
I have always wanted to paint the striking, gold statues on the Pont Alexander III Bridge in Paris, but the light was never correct. On this special evening, the golden sun was setting with many colors and it was creating deep, reflective shadows and colors on the statues.. Adding just a bit of genuine gold leaf to the painting was a final touch to express my feelings.

Entering the Louvre, Paris

watercolor on paper, 2011
14 x 11”, 36 x 28 cm, framed, 24 x 20”
$625
Entering from a dark archway in the Louvre Plaza in Paris, the diamond-shaped glass Louvre Pyramid suddenly appears in front. The backlit group of people cast strong shadow shapes and offered good contrast for the subtle colors on the glass pyramid.

Cortona Sunset

watercolor, 2016
6 x 15”, 15 x 38 cm
framed, 15 x 23”
$525

It is fairly peaceful to sit on a Tuscan villa patio in Cortona, Italy, watching the sun go down while sipping a glass of Chianti. I was doing just that while teaching a painting workshop in Tuscany. Suddenly, the sky turned a warm yellow creating a reddish glow on the trees yet leaving the foreground a cool blueish-purple. Capturing the fleeting moment is what this painting is about.

Siena, Tuscany

acrylic on panel, 2012
9 x 12”, 23 x 31 cm, framed, 12 x 15”
$400
The Tuscan countryside has typical Tuscan scenes at almost every turn. For this small painting, I wanted to try a new painting technique. First, I painted the panel with rust gesso, then scratched the surface slightly to create a texture. After it dried, I painted this scene with acrylic on the textured base.

Discovering the Village of Eze

oil on linen, 2018
20 x 16”, 51 x 41 cm, 23 x 19” framed
$950
The Village of Eze is perched high above Villefranche-sur-Mer in France. The worn texture of the old stone created a glow on the pot in the light and the lone tourist venturing down one of the many small alleyways added to the composition.

Shadows on the Quay — Paris

acrylic on linen, 2013
16 x 20”, 41 x 51 cm, framed 20 x 24”
$1200
Sitting on the banks of the Seine while soaking in the sun is a Parisian pastime. The quays allow the visitors to walk along the river and often the trees on the quays create wonderful shadows. Using a limited palette and Impressionistic brushstrokes helped to create a mood that inspired me.

Chianti Backroads

Dordogne Old Stone Shadows

watercolor on archival paper, 2017
17 x 24”, 43 x 36 cm, 28 x 24” framed
$825
In the Dordogne area of the South of France, the old stone walls continually appeal to me. The light falling onto the leaves of the delicate tree was further enhanced by the textures of the backlit wall. It made me want to see what was beyond the old wall and door.

Porpoise Cove Reflections

oil on linen, 2017
14 x 11”, 36 x 28 cm, framed, 16 x 14”
$500
Reflections change very quickly so you must snap a photo to capture the feeling you were experiencing at the moment. A sketch or Plein-Air painting can capture your initial reaction by referring to your photo reflections.

Kennebunkport Reflections

watercolor on paper, 2017
14 x 14”, 36 x 36 cm, framed, 22" x 22”
$625
Often, one must take a quick photo to capture the light and scene of the moment. In this case, a storm was coming and after the storm, we drove by the buildings again. The scene had completely changed. There were no reflections and the unsealed wood had become quite dark.

Venetian Pot

oil on linen, 2018
30 x 30”, 76 x 76 cm, framed 32 x 32”
$3200
Years of wear textures on this grand Venetian pot attracted me. Even the lichen growing on it added to its appeal. To enhance the feeling and scale of the pot, the stairs in the background and column remained but I painted them to tell the story, but as a softer value background.

Scopello at the Tuna Factory, Sicily

watercolor on paper
10 x 10”, 25 x 25 cm, framed, 19 x 19”
$400
Scopello at the Tuna Factory in Sicily produced these intriguing rock formations rising out of the sea. This was painted Plein-Air to demonstrate reflections, which can be quite challenging in watercolor with a moving sea.

Goat Island Lighthouse

oil on art media board, 2017
16 x 20”, 41 x 26 cm, 17 x 21” framed
$950
While traveling in Cape Porpoise, Maine, this lighthouse glowed with the approaching storm. The low tide aided the composition and allows the viewer to enter the painting. Using oil on the art media board added an interesting texture to the water.

Dory Boats in the Fog

oil on linen, 2018
18 x 24”, 2018
56 x 56 cm, 20 x 26” framed
$1275
In Kennebunkport, Maine, suddenly the fog came up and enveloped everything but the dory boats. Many glazed layers were used to create this glow of the fog. If you mix yellow, red, and blue on your palette, you just get grey, but if you glaze each color separately, you can achieve a marvelous glow.

Montepulciano Archway

14 x 11”, 36 x 28 cm, framed 20" x 17”
$550
Montepulciano, a famous hilltop town in Tuscany, offers artists continual subjects to paint. I was intrigued by the textures on the old wall and arch where the light was catching the texture.

Cesari-Roma Reflections

acrylic on linen, 2012
30 x 30”, 76 x 76 cm, framed, 32 x 32”
$3200
I spotted these reflections walking near the Piazzo Navona in Rome, Italy. The scene looked so typically Italian to me. The glass door, opposite, was being reflected onto the wall; it was actually curved. The viewer must determine what is a reflection versus the textures on the wall.

This is Paris

acrylic on canvas, 2012
24 x 30”, 61 x 76 cm, framed, 27 x 33”
$2880
The architectural elements exemplify what Paris is about to me - the multitude of chimneys, the age-worn stone buildings, the multi-paned windows, the overcast sky, and the slate rooftops. Adding some burgundy foliage created a frame for the architecture.

Take the Batobus in Paris on the Seine River - a wonderful way for tourists to tour the museums and other highlights from the water. Paris Café Reflections

40 x 40”, 102 x 102 cm
$3200, gallery wrap

One often enters the Jardin du Palais Royale through a small entry that suddenly opens up to a huge garden. Deciding to paint a large square painting of the scene enabled me to concentrate on the lovely building textures and design. The gold-leafed gate-posts at the entrance to the Café help to welcome the viewer. Reflections on the window give you the sense there is a garden behind them.

Tuscan Textures

watercolor on paper, 2012
29 x 21”, 53 x 74 cm, framed, 40 x 32”
$3050
In Panzano, staying at Villa le Barone, high on a hilltop above Florence, this view was just down the road. It inspired me because of the various textures - one of my favorite painting styles to do. When painting this in watercolor, I must do a lot of ‘negative painting’ as watercolor must always go light to dark and few corrections can be made. White paint is rarely used.

Village of Burford Patio

Oil on prepared rice paper, 2018
20" x 16", 51 x 41 cm, framed 23" x 19"
$890
The aged, Cotswold stone continually draws me; in this case it seemed to be inviting me for a cup of tea. To create some of the texture, rice paper was mounted on board and was prepared to receive oils. Using this technique enabled me to paint more Impressionistic because I was utilizing the underlying texture in addition to my brush strokes.

Paris Flower Market

Paris of Old

acrylic on canvas, 2012

Although a traditional Parisian scene, interest was created by painting almost the entire small painting with a device that I found in a children’s art department. I am always on the lookout for anything that can create a certain texture. Once, while I was teaching a workshop in Paris, I demonstrated how you could even use baquette-style breadcrumbs for texture.
