Beginning Acrylic Painting
August 6 – 8, 2013 (Tuesday – Thursday)
Discover the many uses of acrylic paint through this very informative workshop. You will learn how to use it in thin layers much like a watercolor, or on canvas, more like an oil. Acrylic’s versatility is one of the beauties of this medium. There are numerous new mediums on the market you will be able to try for various effects. You will learn about the materials required, mixing, gradation, brushwork, textures and blending techniques. We will first practice on several simple shapes to learn these techniques and then, work on a painting of your chosen subject. Drawing experience is desirable but not a requirement.

‘Fix & Finish’ Your Painting
August 9-10, 2013
Do you have too many unfinished paintings in your studio? Have you always wanted to finish some of those paintings, but didn’t know how or have the interest to do so? In this class, you may bring 2 to 3 of your existing paintings to be personally critiqued and shown how to ‘fix’ a problem area to successfully complete the painting. We will work on as many images as the time allows, equally for the students. The paintings you bring to class can be in any medium (oil, acrylic or watercolor), in any subject and do not have to have been done in a previous Filoli workshop. Please plan to bring whatever art materials you initially used to do the painting, including the photo from which you worked. Jann will demonstrate how to work out problem compositions on an iPad, using the App – PS Touch (a simple version of Photoshop).

Jann, both classes sound wonderful! I will have to see how the class schedule works with the hanging of my exhibit that same week.
