Architecture in Perspective
Perspective can be difficult but understanding the technical basics can make it much easier. We will be doing lots of drawing and sketching in this class with some outside ‘plein air’ and some in the classroom. We will study the basics of one and two point perspective, learn how to quickly block out a building by sketching and then, apply the architectural details of windows and doors. You will also learn how to correctly draw arches, dormers, windows, chairs and much more. Once you acquire this knowledge, drawing cityscapes, buildings, fence posts, etc. in perspective can become second nature, This is a drawing only class. It will make your painting so much easier.
Learning how to see perspective and capturing the moment is a key to painting plein-air. Because I was on a moving boat, the sketch of Chåteau de Beynac, above, had to be done in about 30 seconds. Gaining this knowledge makes it easy to proceed with your painting.
