‘My love of art and travel, combined with a study of old world architecture is a never-ending source of inspiration for my paintings. I see light, color and shapes that evoke a feeling or moment in time that I want to capture and share with my viewer.’
American Impressionist Artist
‘I grew up on a farm in Iowa and think I painted every ‘Paint by Number’ kit available as a child. It was just something I had to do. When I went to college at the the University of Colorado, Boulder, a whole new world of art and architecture opened my eyes. While majoring in Interior Design, I had the opportunity to take numerous art and architecture courses. I can still recall that first smell of oil paint in the classrooms, even today. An avid desire to explore and ‘see the world’, combined with a study of art and architecture, helped to define my style of painting as it is today. Light and texture are primary to my compositions, in which I try to capture the essence and feeling of the many places seen and traveled.’
After practicing interior design for 25 years while continuing to paint and enter shows, her work was accepted into a gallery in 1985. Pollard has been in three California galleries, currently in a gallery in Charlotte, NC, teaches watercolor workshops internationally, is the cover artist for the Karen Brown Travel books, has written two books and is often called to demonstrate or to be a juror. This is a wonderful “way of life” and she feels quite fortunate to be able to call this her work.
Frequent trips to Europe enable Jann to capture the feeling and sense of the subjects she paints with a fresh, vibrant handling of the medium. Light and texture are primary to her compositions in which she captures the essence and feeling of the many places seen and travelled. Her extensive works are in private and corporate collections, internationally. Jann and her husband, Gene, reside in Charlotte, North Carolina.

I am a portrait painter, studied at the Art Students League in NY. Drawn to plein air painting and eager to begin in mid May to eraly June. Can you advise, guide, inform me how to proceed?
My best advice is to go outside and give it a try. Painting plein-air hones your skills and sharpens your observations. You should try giving yourself 2 hours to finish the small plein-air painting or the sun will have completely changed your subject.
Hi Jann,
Your exhibit at Filoli is lovely! Sorry I missed you, will you be coming back to take it down? If so, let’s get together!
Big hugs,
Catherine
Thanks, Catherine and sorry I missed you, too. Unfortunately, I won’t be there for the end of the exhibition but I will be returning to teach the first week of August.
